FAQ
Do you have any questions about hypnotherapy? Hillside Hypnotherapy is committed to giving clients the best care and experience possible. See some of the most common questions and answers below. If you still have unanswered questions feel free to contact me to discuss.
Will you be in control of me during the hypnosis?
No, I cannot control you or make you do something you don’t want to do, or which goes against your beliefs or morals - you will remain in control of your own thoughts and actions. Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation where your mind is in a state of heightened suggestibility, however it doesn’t mean that you lose control of your mind or body.
How will I feel after a session?
Most clients feel very relaxed, imagine that feeling after you’ve had a nice long massage. You will still be able to carry on with your day as usual – hopefully with a bit more of a spring in your step!
How many sessions will I need?
This can vary from person to person. I generally see people for between 8-10 sessions, sometimes less and sometimes more depending on progress.
Are the sessions as effective over Zoom?
Yes, I have found that zoom sessions are equally as beneficial. The client is in the comfort of their own home and for certain clients it has benefits because they don’t need to spend time travelling etc. All you need is an internet connection and somewhere quiet and comfortable to sit/lie down. I always prefer to see younger children face to face as I feel I can build up a better rapport using things such as drawing/toys etc.
Is Hypnotherapy safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is considered a safe therapy. We are not delving into the past, we focus on the positives things about the here and now, and use our imagination to look towards a positive future. Clients should feel happier and more refreshed following a session.
What qualifications do you hold?
I trained at the Clifton Practice In Bristol where I obtained a diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH). I am a member of the Association for solution focused hypnotherapy (AfSFH), which requires me to practice within certain ethical standards, and to keep myself updated with current research and CPD. I hold a full DBS certificate.
Is there anything that Hypnotherapy won't work on?
Hypnotherapy is not a miracle cure, and I am unable to cure someone from a medical condition. It is a complimentary therapy, and can be used alongside medical treatments. For example, I cannot cure someone that has been diagnosed with cancer, however I can help to relieve the anxiety around it, to help a person to cope better with treatment, and can help them relax for medical procedures etc. If someone is already taking anti-depressant medication, hypnotherapy can be a great adjunct to get those happy hormones flowing!
Hypnotherapy isn’t recommended for anyone with psychosis.
If you are unsure if I can help you, please ask and I will be happy to discuss it with you.
