Solution focused hypnotherapy (SFH) is a type of talking therapy that combines hypnosis (trance) with psychotherapy. It uses positive, solution focused discussions to help a person to focus on the future rather than dwelling on the past. By using practical and well researched strategies, I help clients to use their imaginations to see what life would be like without the problem – enabling them to make significant, positive changes in their lives.

What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis, or trance is a state of deep guided relaxation. Trance is very ordinary in many ways, and we naturally go in and out of trance multiple times per day. Think of when you are driving a regular route, cleaning, watching TV, or out for a run etc. Its where our minds are in a state of deep relaxation which allows it to relax and focus. This what helps us enormously because it’s in this state that we are more susceptible to taking on positive suggestions.
It is a big myth that the therapist can control you, this isn’t true. You are still in full control and can’t be coerced into doing anything you don’t want to do, or that is against your morals or beliefs.
What happens during the sessions?
Each session begins with what’s been good about your week and what has made you smile. This might feel difficult at first, but it does get easier! We talk about how our minds work, and why we sometimes do things we don’t want to do.
We have positive, solution focused discussions that focus on the present and the future, not the past. Recognising that the past has happened and we can’t (and don’t need to), change it can be a powerful tool.
The session ends with some guided relaxation (trance), where your mind can relax and consolidate what has been discussed. It is from this state that our minds can come up with its own solutions to problems.
You will leave the session feeling refreshed and relaxed.
